So you finally admit to being sick of buying all those individual cans of Play-Doh, huh? Especially if you're anything like us and have to buy the whole 15 can pack just to get the single can of tan dough that for some reason is not available as a single can. There goes $20 easy, right? WRONG! We no longer need to stand for this mayhem! At last we have the power to strike back, just like the Empire after those pesky rebels blew up the Death Star!

BEHOLD! The Invincible Play-Doh Recipe!!

What you will need:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 Tablespoons oil (vegetable, salad, avocado, etc)
  • 1 Tablespoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup salt
  • a variety of food coloring

Combine the dry ingredients in a sauce pan. The kind you'd make Ramen in if you were poor from buying all that store bought Play-Doh. Then mix the liquids in a separate bowl. Once those liquids are all mixed up, pour them into the sauce pan with the dry ingredients and stir them together. Cook while stirring over medium heat until the dough gets thick - we're talking thick like so thick the whole wad sticks to the stirring spoon and pulls away from the pot. When that happens, dump the whole heap out onto the table... maybe some parchment paper might be useful... then knead it till it's smooth.

If you store it in an air tight container it will last until the end of time itself. Believe it or not, it has some decent longevity when exposed to air as well. Obviously it will eventually dry out and become useless, thereby invalidating our ego-maniacle claim that the dough is invincible. But it will make you feel invincible in the war against expensive colored dough that you know your kids never put away properly.

Notes about food coloring:
Nothin' to say except experiment until you find the magical dosage to achieve the color you want. For that reason this recipe has no official measurement for the amount of coloring to add to this particular recipe.
